First XI – Match Report vs Nairn
by Shaun Thomas
Counties 244/6 45 overs
Nairn 191 all out
Counties win by 53 runs!
Counties were under pressure to bounce back after a disappointing performance and loss last weekend. Captain Dugdale made changes to the batting lineup and there was a slightly different approach to the batting.
Counties lost the toss and openers Thomas and MacDowell saw off the opening bowlers. They were 35/0 off 12 overs when Thomas edged behind. This brought Captain Dugdale to the crease and he looked in fine touch playing some lovely shots. After MacDowell fell, Cronin also looked in great form, playing some good off side shots.
Counties got to 139, with Dugdale making 70 before he fell. Ford came to the crease and him and Cronin put on a strong partnership until the latter fell trying to push the scoring rate on.
Counties really pushed on at the tail of their innings with Smith and Eshwara having no pressure which enabled them to play freely. Counties finished on 244/6 of their 45 with everyone contributing.
Counties took to the field knowing if they removed openers, Wolton and Green early they would be favourites to win. They did exactly that with Latimer and Thomas removing both early doors.
Counties kept the pressure on and got wickets at regular intervals with all the bowlers contributing. Counties finally bowled Nairn out for 191 and won by 53 runs.
A good team performance with everyone contributing in some way or form. The batting display looked a lot more solid with a good platform being built early on and some good hitting at the end of the innings.
The team travel to Forres next weekend and will be hoping for two good training sessions this week to prepare for what should be a tough match.
